Twelve Ways You can Unlock God's Scripture
Our Sunday morning focus for our youth this fall will be learning and understanding how to carry out and apply an effective study of God’s Word. When it comes to really digging in and studying Scripture, many of us have the desire to do it, but simply get discouraged because we do not know how. After all, how can we know how if we are not taught?
We will be using Rick Warren’s book Bible Study Methods: Twelve Ways You can Unlock God’s Word as a basis to discuss some effective ways of making a personal study of the Bible applicable to our everyday lives. To take a quote out of the book, “It is possible to know the Word of God and not know the God of the Word.”
It is my prayer that through this study of learning effective ways to study Scripture, that we not only grow in our intellectual knowledge of God’s Words, but that we increasingly see out lives reflecting the attributes of the one we are reading about. If our study of the Bible isn’t transforming our lives to becoming more like Christ, than we aren’t fully benefiting from the gift of God’s Words.
Our goal is to know Jesus Christ and to become like him in our attitudes, our thoughts, our speech, our actions, and our values. John 8:31-32 says, “If you continue in my word, then you are my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” That is our goal for this teaching series. Students, this study will be a challenge, but I encourage you to join us on Sunday mornings and to stick with your personal study.
Parents, your encouragement throughout this study will benefit your student greatly. We will post weekly parent updates containing valuable information, questions, and examples of each study method so you can help keep your students going. You may even want to try some of these study methods in your own study time and benefit from these lessons as well!
